Just some info I used in my project

I haven't really posted much of my researched info on here, just my methods.. but here is some information I threw into the diary that I want to share with you guys.

I answered this briefly without much research but after looking through some different articles and discussion forums. I think the US could have HELPED but not STOPPED the Holocaust.

The United States focused more on themselves during this time and did not try to give help to those who were facing the more severe issues. I think if there weren't so many anti-Jewish sentiments the Jews would have had a place to escape to. So that's my first point-- America being unwelcoming. Number two would be a little more dramatic but still get the job done-- America invade Germany. This would have made them realize Hitler was not as powerful as they thought; it was the fear among the people that led him to have so much control in Germany at the time. It wouldn't be smart to go in alone considering the strength of the German army but the idea of join with another country to invade Germany would have been helpful.
On a different note, I think FDR was trying to protect America for the future because helping the Jews would have resulted in more chaos in America, economic issues, and he would have been known as someone who couldn't keep his word..as he promised not to focus on foreign affairs.

  1. Hey Jovania, I find this post very interesting because I am answering the same question but I am on the opposite side. My side is saying that the U.S could not have done more to help the Holocaust. Have you considered the economy the the U.S had while this was going on? Budget constraints were a big reason for the U.S to not go in. FDR also had to back up the statements he said during his campaign about being neutral. Also about invading Germany, it was a tough call to decide when to jump in because the Germans themselves did not yet realize what was going on. Most had that question of "Is this really happening?" Lastly there were several countries a that were already involved, and even when the U.S jumped in it was still a tough battle. In conclusion I do find that your reasons claiming that the U.S could have done more to prevent the war are very valid.

  2. Yeah, I tried to focus on both sides of this because I am aware of the economic issues and previous promises made by FDR. I included that in the post "On a different note, I think FDR was trying to protect America for the future because helping the Jews would have resulted in more chaos in America, economic issues, and he would have been known as someone who couldn't keep his word..as he promised not to focus on foreign affairs." But I still think slight alterations could have resulted in less deaths during this time.

  3. I like how you took a middle standpoint and are defending your point. You are explaining how it would not be irreversible however it did not need to be so drastic. The way you showed not only the flaws of Germany but also showed how the Jews would not be well suited in the United States is a unique approach which I have not yet seen.
